Botswana’s magnificent Okavango Delta is a maze of lagoons, lakes and hidden channels covering an area of over 16,000 square km in flood and shrinking to less than 9,000 square km in the dry season. Trapped in the parched Kalahari sands the fresh water oasis attracts wildlife that depends on the permanent waters of this unique wilderness.

Camp Okavango is situated on the remote Nxaragha Island in the heart of the permanent Okavango Delta, assuring a year-round water wilderness experience.

Camp Okavango’s elegant thatch and lethaka main lodge building features a cocktail bar, lounge and wildlife reference library.

Shaded hammocks, reading benches and a delightful sundeck and plunge pool provide relief during the hot midday hours, whilst an elevated observation platform affords stunning views of the tranquil floodplain's.

In addition to boat and mokoro trips, bush walks on the islands are possible, though see my comments on walking trips in Botswana before you set off. Camps like this which concentrate on water activities tend to have a slower pace than those which also offer game drives; you’ll have more time to just relax.

As befits this, the tents also have their own tea- and coffee-making facilities and even towelling robes. The team here are also adept at varying the routine, and including the odd torch-lit barbecue on islands away from camp, and other bush surprises. The camp’s curio shop is notable for a fine collection of baskets, all made by the staff, with the proceeds going to them. There are also a few books, T-shirts and film.
